about

This album is four longish improvised live things that are a combination of synthesiser and guitar with effects. Two tracks have guitar, two just have synths. The process with these recordings was pretty simple - I would noodle around for a while getting a sound I was happy with, then noodle over it, either with guitar or more synth stuff, except the last track. The final track, the stupidly long one that I had to keep editing to get it under 600 meg (as per Bandcamp's regulations) started life as a modulated tone that I let sit on my minilogue for a few days as I liked the sound of it. One day I just hit record and let it go, along with a few other synths, and went about my morning of working from home, adjusting things here and there. I have realised that this is really the only way I can make minimal sounding music, cos I would normally jam loads of stuff on there to entertain myself.

All four tracks were recorded live to 2 track Tascam in February 2021, when Melbourne was in and out of COVID lockdown. Little thought went into any of these tunes, it was more of an immediate expression. When each track was finished - as in when I had stopped playing - I dropped them into Reaper and gave them a real quick massage to balance it out a little, and then randomly chose a phrase from Michael Shermer's book 'Why People Believe Weird Things: Pseudoscience, Superstition, and Other Confusions of Our Time', which just kinda felt appropriate in these weird post-truth times we live in.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and/or listening, or just being you.
Take care - Jason
